Connecting Your Side Email to a Mobile Email App
How to add your Side branded Google Workspace email to Outlook, Gmail, or Apple Mail on your iPhone or Android device.
Before You Start
Your Side email is a Google Workspace account managed by sideinc.com. This means every email app will route you through an Okta login page during setup — this is expected and required. It's how the app securely connects to your Side Google account.
iPhone (iOS) iOS
- Open the Outlook app. If you haven't added an account yet, you'll be prompted automatically — skip to step 3. If you already have an account set up, continue to step 2.
- Tap your profile icon in the upper left → tap the Settings gear in the lower right → tap Add Mail Account under Mail Accounts. If another account is suggested, tap Skip.
- Enter your Side branded email address in the Email Address field and tap Add Account.
- A Side Okta login page will appear. Enter your Side branded email password and tap Sign in.
- After the account is added, tap the X in the upper left to close settings.
- Pull down to refresh your inbox — new messages will start downloading.
- Open the Gmail app and tap Sign in, or tap your profile picture in the upper right and select Add another account.
- Tap Google. A prompt will appear: "Gmail wants to use google.com to sign in" — tap Continue.
- Enter your Side branded email address and tap Next.
- A Side Okta login page will appear. Enter your Side branded account password and tap Sign in.
- Your Side email is now connected. It will appear as a separate inbox in the Gmail app.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and tap Mail.
- Tap Accounts → Add Account.
- Select Google.
- Enter your Side branded email address and tap Next.
- A Side Okta login page will appear. Enter your Side branded account password and tap Sign in.
- A confirmation dialog may appear asking you to confirm signing in to iOS Accounts — tap Continue.
- Tap Save in the upper right to finish. Your Side email will now appear in Apple Mail.
Android Android
- Open the Outlook app. If you've never signed in before, select Add Account. If you already have an account, tap your profile icon → Add Account.
- Select Add Google Account.
- Enter your Side branded email address.
- A prompt will appear: "Your Google Account is managed by sideinc.com" — tap Accept.
- You'll be directed to log into Okta. This is expected — it allows Outlook to communicate with your Side email. Complete the Okta login.
- A prompt will appear: "Microsoft apps & services wants access to your Google Account" — scroll to the bottom and tap Allow.
- If asked whether to add another account, tap Maybe Later. Your Side email is now connected to Outlook.
- Open the Gmail app and tap Got it if prompted.
- Tap Add another email address.
- Select Google.
- Enter your Side branded email address.
- A prompt will appear: "Your Google Account is managed by sideinc.com" — tap Accept.
- You'll be directed to log into Okta. Complete the Okta login to connect the account.
- Tap Take me to Gmail. Your Side email will now appear as a separate inbox in the Gmail app.
Troubleshooting
Make sure you selected Google as the account type (not Exchange or IMAP). Side email is a Google Workspace account — selecting the wrong account type will skip the Okta flow and fail to connect. Start the setup again and choose Google.
Check you have a stable internet connection, then close and reopen the email app and try again. If the issue continues, try completing the setup while connected to Wi-Fi rather than cellular data.
Confirm you're using your Side branded email (yourname@yourbrand.com) — not a personal Gmail address. If you're unsure of your Side email, log into sideagent.okta.com on a desktop browser and check the account name displayed in the top right corner.
Pull down to manually refresh your inbox after setup — the app won't always fetch messages automatically on first load. If messages still don't appear after a minute, close the app fully and reopen it.
